The Shelby Shines On Foundation awards scholarships to graduating seniors in Newton County who demonstrate compassion, inclusion, and a commitment to uplifting others.
Shelby lived her life with kindness, humor, and an open heart for everyone around her. This scholarship honors her legacy by recognizing students who reflect those same values in their schools, communities, and everyday lives.
Through this scholarship program, Shelby’s light continues to shine forward in the next generation.
• Be a graduating senior from a Newton County high school or Covington Academy
• Have been accepted to a college, university, trade school, apprenticeship program, or military service
• Demonstrate leadership, compassion, and inclusion within their school or community
Before You Start Your Application
Applying for the Shelby Shines On Scholarship is a simple 3-step process.
Step 1 — Download the Required Forms
Download the Parent/Guardian Release Form and the Recommendation Guidelines using the buttons below.
You will need:
• A signed Parent/Guardian Photo Release Form
• A letter of recommendation from a teacher or administrator

Step 2 — Prepare Your Response
Choose one of the following ways to tell us your story.
Essay (500 words max) or Video (3 minutes max)
Prompt:
Shelby believed in kindness, inclusion, and making sure everyone felt seen and valued.
Tell us how you promote inclusion with special needs peers in your school or community.
How do your actions create a meaningful experience for everyone involved? How will you continue promoting inclusion in the future?
Step 3 — Apply Online
Once you have your forms completed and your essay or video ready, click Apply Online and upload all required materials in the application form.
All materials must be submitted together.
