Shelby Shines On Glitz & Gears Car Show Recap

On August 23, the first-ever Shelby Shines On Glitz & Gears Car Show came to life—and what a day it was! Even though the skies opened up and rain poured down, our community showed up in true Shelby spirit—bright, bold, and unstoppable.

We had 51 incredible cars on display, each one polished and ready to shine despite the weather. From classics that turned heads to modern builds that impressed even the toughest critics, the lineup was nothing short of amazing. A beautiful silver 1963 Corvette, owned by Rob & Dawn Anderson, won Best in Show.

Beyond the cars, the event buzzed with energy. 24 local vendors brought their crafts, food, and unique creations, turning the show into a lively marketplace. And thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we served up 100 plates of delicious chicken—a hit with car enthusiasts and families alike.

The atmosphere was electric thanks to music from DJ Whittles, who kept the energy up and the crowd moving all afternoon. Kids and families loved the Touch-a-Truck area, with the Newton County Police Department, Newton County Fire Department, Caterpillar, the Sum Beach mud truck, Wild Willie’s, and Peterbilt showing off their vehicles and equipment.

Special thanks to Snapping Shoals EMC, who offered bucket rides that not only gave attendees a fun and unique experience but also raised additional funds for the foundation. Our raffle tickets were a huge hit, and the excitement grew even bigger during the silent auction, where a generous supporter placed the winning bid on a set of tires donated by Courtesy Family of Dealers.

But more than anything, the day was filled with love for Shelby. Every car that rolled in, every plate sold, every laugh and hug reminded us why we do this. Shelby’s light continues to shine through this community, and Glitz & Gears was proof that even a rainy day can’t dim that glow.
