Remembering Shelby: A Special Bench Restored to Keep Her Spirit Shining On in Our Downtown Square

The heart of downtown isn't just about buildings and shops; it's filled with cherished memories of those who have traveled its paths. Recently, our community came together to show its love and remembrance through the restoration of a bench on the Square at Sherwood Flowers. The family and friends of Shelby McWaters initiated the request to have this special spot dedicated to our sweet Shelby. We are continuously looking for ways to honor her beautiful memory. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to remember her love for our downtown.

Shelby had a remarkable ability to brighten any room. Her love for our community was known to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. The restored bench stands as a tribute to her legacy, inviting all to sit, reflect, and remember the joyful moments shared with her.

A Community United in Remembrance

The restoration of the bench was more than a physical upgrade; it became a powerful act of love that resounded across our community. Key contributors, like the Covington Downtown Development Authority and City Councilman Travis Moore, helped realize this vision, ensuring that Shelby’s memory remains a vital part of our downtown landscape.

Such a project highlights the incredible unity within our community. It shows how we can share memories and support each other through kindness. During the restoration event, over 100 friends, family members, and neighbors gathered. This turnout underscored how deeply Shelby had touched lives, reflecting a collective commitment to celebrate her beautiful spirit.

Shelby’s Favorite Spots

Shelby loved spending time in historical Covington Square, especially her time working at the Soap Box where she enjoyed serving and chatting with their loyal customers. Whether working, dining, or just zipping around in her golf cart, Shelby shared countless joyful moments filled with laughter and warmth, creating lasting memories on the Covington Square.

The newly restored bench will be more than just a resting place; it will serve as a gathering spot for storytelling and reflection. People can sit, sip their beverages, and connect over fond memories of Shelby. This kind of shared narrative will help keep her spirit shining on among us.

Visiting the Bench

We invite everyone to stop by the bench, take a seat, and think about your memories of Shelby. This space is not only for nostalgia but also for joy and togetherness. As you sit on this special bench, consider snapping a photo and tagging the Shelby Shines On Foundation on Facebook or Instagram. By doing this, you help share Shelby's spirit with a wider audience, ensuring her legacy continues to thrive.

Whether you're a long-time resident or new to our downtown, each visitor adds to the tale this bench tells. It symbolizes love and remembrance, inviting stories from everyone who feels Shelby’s sparkle!

Keeping Memories Alive

As the bench stands at Sherwood Flowers, it serves as a constant reminder of the impact one person can have on a community. Restoring this bench reflects Shelby’s enduring legacy and the connections that bind us. While she may not be physically present, her spirit continues to shine through every smile, memory, and moment we share in our beloved downtown.

As her family and friends, we vow to keep Shelby's spirit alive. Let’s celebrate her love for our downtown and share her light with those around us. To everyone who contributed to the restoration, and to the city of Covington for allowing us to honor Shelby in this meaningful way, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Your love continues to shape our community.
